The Emperors of Cape Washington

The Emperors of Cape Washington

(Alex) When most people think of Antarctica, they think about penguins. The iconic penguin of the 18 different species is probably the Emperor Penguin. After all, many people have seen the movies Happy Feet or March of the Penguins featuring the Emperor Penguins. I was fortunate to spend time with the real things! In Antarctica, […]

(Alex) Boca and River, equivalent to Yankees and Red Sox in rivalries, met last night at River’s stadium here in Buenos Aires. Boca is Red Sox, while River is Yankees. River’s stadium holds about 65 thousand people, 61 thousand of them are River fans, the other four thousand people were Boca’s biggest fans. All confined […]

Sea Lion Snorkeling

(Alex) When you think of the Galapagos, you think of: warm, Equatorial, Darwin, giant tortoises, blue footed boobies and blue water. Like a perfect dream land. Well, it’s not. Never Again

Never Again

Cheetah Chase

Cheetah Chase

(Alex) One way to find predators while on safari is to look for parked cars, another is to find them yourself. We usually do the second option, but in this case, we did the first. We went out with one goal, to find cheetahs. There are two main sets of cheetahs in the Maasai Mara, […]

Zimbabwe Adrenaline

Zimbabwe Adrenaline

(Alex) Today we had an adrenaline filled day. White water rafting on the Zambezi River with class 3, 4 and 5 rapids in the morning, then cliff jumping and zip lining in the afternoon! The rafting was great; high, tough rapids followed by nice, calm, warm, flat surfaces of water for swimming – without many […]

Water: the Currency of Life

Water: the Currency of Life

(Alex) There is 2 % of fresh water on the planet. Out of that, 69% is ice. 30% is ground water and 1% of that is available to us in rivers, lakes, ponds and marshes. Only 8% of the 1% of the available fresh water is used for all different kinds of domestic use. Mostly […]
