Last Day Thoughts

We made a video of the kids’ feelings about the year before the trip; what they looked forward to, were afraid of and what they most anticipated. That video is in the Preparation section of this site.

Now, as we wrestle with re-entry and the rhythm of everyday life, we will try to capture some of the emotions swirling around all of us. It starts with this video shot on one of the last days of our year, on the stern of Jambo off the island of Huahine in French Polynesia:

  1. Hi Dana,

I met you briefly at the Dover Days event recently (Scotsman with 2 girls). I’m glad I bumped in to you as that led me to the website which gave me a better understanding of your trip: Great job. You and Greg have exposed your children to an extremely valuable experience that will illuminate many aspects of their future lives.

Coming home after such a long journey can be hard. I guess you’ve been back 2 or 3 months now but reverse cultureshock and the general trauma of adapting to surburban life can be quite unpleasant at times. I’ve travelled extensively and each member of my family was born in a different country so I can guess at some of what you guys have gone through. Hope the reintegration is as smooth as possible.

Hope to see you around Dover (we moved in just as you guys left on your travels).

    All the best,
