The Great Barrier Reef

Alex, Emma, Dana and a Potato Cod

(Emma) All the fish swam around us like bees in a hive. All the colors of the coral pop out at us like balloons in the sky. We swim around in the 84F water. The warmth comes over me like a blanket on an icy day. All my senses get filled with the joy of diving. I hear my breath under the water, “PUHHHH CHUUUUU!” The salt burns my eyes through my mask. I look at all the fish swimming around. Most of them swim away when they see this big black diver going towards them. You see all the fish, big ones, small ones, pretty ones, ugly ones.

The light soaks in from the suface and brings life to the reef. Some of the corals sway in the slow movement under the sea. Everything is slower underwater, the whole world comes to a slow stop. You learn to look at the smaller things; the polyps on the coral, the small fish that keep the reef going. “PUHHHH CHUUUUU!” I slowly start to drift off into another world of calm, relaxing water.

I guess they call me a water baby for a reason… the water is my home!
