Sand Boarding

No chairlifts on the dunes

Snowboarding is something I might have wanted to try one day, but when I imagined it I pictured white, cold snow; not tan, hot sand. Well in the Atacama there is no snow, only sand. So it is called Sandboarding!

We turn the corner in the canyon, walking on the ash and gypsum. We see a sand dune and I know this must be the place. Alexandra suggests I go first, I buckle into my clips and stand up. Slowly I go down the sand. I didn’t get enough momentum so I went higher up on the next try. This time it worked! But when you get snow down your back it is cold. Sand is just uncomfortable. I never thought that sand boarding would be possible, but then again I was very surprised that I could actually go down the sand dune. AND you don’t even have to wear gloves, but you do have to put on sunscreen! The sandboarding was so enjoyable and I am so glad that I got to try it! I just cant wait to try it on the snow!

Here is a video of our sand dune action:

  3. Hi guys, I heard you were going to Antarctica so here’s a fun fact I learned about Antarctica, when you’re in Antarctica it’s almost impossible to set a clock because you are in all 24 time zones at once! I hoped you liked my fun fact. I can’t wait to hear more about your adventures.
