(Emma) August 5th, 10:15 PM. I was born.
“Emma! Emma! Look!” My dad calls from the other side of the camp site. I think it is an emergency so I sprint over to where he is. He points his finger to a tree. I think he is crazy because he is showing me a tree; but then… “Oh my goodness!” And there standing only 20 feet away, eating that tree was a full grown bull elephant!
My mind scrambles and I don’t know what to focus on! But then “Emma go get the boys!” Through all the scrambling I do get Andrew and Reis. “Andrew and Reis! Get up!” I yell as I jump up and down banging on their tent. ” There is an elephant 20 feet away!” Then I run away because I do not want to miss anything. Two seconds later all of us are staring at this amazingly huge, harmless creature. He was spectacular!
Keep in mind for this part that I said “Harmless”.
Then as everyone starts to walk away with great memories, a South African man walks out of the little outdoor washroom near his campsite. He was surprised by the elephant so he tries to sneak by. The elephant sees him and he charges! It looks like the mans first reaction was to run. So he did. He ran around the trees in a flash. And the elephant looked pleased and just kept eating. All of us that saw it cracked up. You might not think that is funny but really, think about it. It was funny. And not only a memorable experience but a great one with that.
