My flight to Hobart, though long, was surprisingly comfortable. I am sure the anticipation of the surprise and the continuation of the adventure helped to ease whatever discomfort I had.
Shane and the rest of the team on the Kapitan Klebnikov had done an excellent job orchestrating the surprise. All the baggage was hoisted onto the deck then inspected by a cute little beagle sniffing for food and organics prohibited in Tasmania. Shane had borrowed the “tester package” that the customs guys use to train the dogs and placed it into one of our bags. The dog, on cue, identified our bag as trouble, allowing Shane to call Dana and the kids out onto the dock for interrogation. As they fumbled with the bag and an excuse – and as the whole ship looked on from above – I turned the corner.
